My children's program is a failure-free, family friendly program that kids love. I develop individualized programs that teach attention, memory, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Your work with Brain Engineering starts at home, and is subsequently transferred to school and social settings.
In the children's program, you work with your child on fun exercises that start as simple picture games and work up to reading, writing, and speaking. I provide the conceptual background and the tools you need to do the work; you have fun training your child.
In my adult programs, you may work seminar-style, on your own with guidance from me or a bit of both. Our adult programs help sharpen and retain brain functionality, help those who need to perform better on standardized tests and help executives perform and communicate better in the workplace.
If we are consulting about your child, you and I will talk over the phone and utilize 2 websites for 60-90 minutes, to determine whether your child meets the Maverick Mind criteria. We complete 3 tests. First we will examine 50 different symptoms that Mavericks can manifest. These symptoms relate to the brain functions that drive attention and memory, listening and speaking, reading and writing. They have been studied for more than 30 years, and have been shown to be the most likely to improve with Brain Engineering. Secondly, we analyze visual thinking in the family tree because when there are other visual thinkers in the family we find that to be a good prognostic sign. Thirdly we look at goals and objectives and create a menu of options for training.
If we are consulting about an adult program, we will spend about 45-minutes to an hour discussing your needs, your current brain function strengths and weaknesses and determine whether you are an "Opticoder" (visual learner), a "Lexicoder" (verbal learner) or a bit of both. Then we will complete 2 hours of objective testing using the phone and internet testing center to be able to determine what type of program is right for you.
It costs $150 for the evaluation, which includes three tests, three modules on your own private website, and the live interpretation. It is a truly great diagnostic tool.
The adult programs have different costs depending on whether you engage one-on-one or work with others in a seminar format.
All children's programs begin with a four week intensive the four-week intensive training is US $2,700. At the end of the four weeks, you will have received 80 tutorials, 200 activities, 4 workbooks, 4 performance dashboards, 15 videos, 15 pod casts and 4 90-minute live classes.
In the third week, we'll re-evaluate how much more personalized consultation you will require. The faster your child improves, the more consultation will be required. The program adjusts on a daily basis, based upon your child's progress.
I have a dual doctorate in speech/hearing science and psychology from The Ohio State University. In 1978, I earned the coveted career development award from the National Institute of Health on Brain Engineering, the world's premier medical research institute on the brain. I've had over 30 years of clinical experience and did 12 years of research for U.S. governmental agencies, including the U.S. Office of Education, the U.S. Bureau of Education for the Handicapped, and the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

A Maverick Mind is a highly visual thinker, someone whose visual brain is so strong that it can overwhelm verbal functions. Sometimes, Mavericks are completely non-verbal, leading them to be misdiagnosed with autism, mental retardation, Asperger's syndrome, oppositional defiant disorder, and similar conditions.
Other times, a Maverick is able to speak but has difficulty with verbal tasks, such as listening to instructions or taking notes and tests. At the same time, they might excel at visual tasks, such as putting together a puzzle or playing video games.

The fight between the visual and verbal brain systems causes the symptoms. The visual system is overwhelming the verbal brain system. The brain starts to prune the system that doesn't work, literally destroying the part that is weak. So what begins to occur is that the brain destroys its own ability to function. In Brain Engineering, we turn the visual and verbal from an enemy relationship into a partnership. That is the beginning of having the two systems working side by side.
Autism is a diagnosis based on symptoms. I treat the children who have the symptoms that meet the criteria that I have designed. Have symptoms of autism, ADD, PDD, Asperger's syndrome, disabilities and more. Often, these symptoms tend to go away if they're caused by an overworking visual brain.
Visual brain functions work differently from verbal brain functions. The visual functions are faster, some say up to 20,000 times faster, than the verbal. The visual thinker tends to arrive at "the big picture" very quickly. But this speed of processing is antagonistic to the much slower pace of verbal processing. To communicate verbally, it's necessary to order thoughts, words, and sentences in the proper sequence. When the very quick visual brain and the slower verbal brain cannot keep pace with one another, erratic thinking and communication develop, which can lead to behavior problems, anxiety, frustration, or withdrawal.
If you spend 15 minutes three times a week, you should see weekly results. If you spend time every day, you should see daily results. The criteria are that you and your child are happy and having fun, and your child is getting 80% of the answers right. If that's happening, you can go longer. Most of the children demand more training because it feels good, it's failure-free, and they're getting the solution to the problem they know they've been experiencing.
In our Brain Engineering Programs, we ensure that your child always succeeds. Also, many behaviors that Mavericks exhibit - such as tantrums, aggression, tactlessness and other inappropriate behaviors - are the result of the fight between the visual and verbal brain functions. Our goal is for your child to become symptom free in three major areas: home, school and self-esteem. As we move forward, most parents begin to integrate the teachers and therapists into the program. At that point, I fade out, they take over, and the process continues.
I award two scholarships a month. Through those scholarships, which are $375, I purchase a program through Care Credit so that you can have an interest-free payment plan for 18 months. Your payment is about US $30 a week, which is affordable for most people. Or I can also purchase a program for you through a scholarship, which is a 60-week program that costs about US $15 a week. This program is for families of excellent candidates who need some help with the financing.
During the course of my practice I have treated many doctors and medical students. The vast majority of doctors are highly visual "mavericks." In the "Executive Brain" program, we begin by taking your "brain print". It is like a fingerprint, uniquely your own and it indicates how you process information. Once we know where your brain preferences, processing strengths and weaknesses are, we engage in exercises that will help you strengthen your attention, memory and processing agility minute, by minute. In this program we teach you how to know when you need to refuel and how to refuel when you need it.
